What analyzing 5.2 million online shoppers tells us about which American cities have the most savings-savvy online shoppers.

Finding a bargain and saving some money when you shop online can be a thrill. But how do your savings skills stack up against the rest of the country?

With the shopping season approaching, Wethrift analyzed the shopping habits of 5.2 million online shoppers to find out which cities are home to America's thriftiest (and least thrifty) shoppers.

Analyzing 5.2 million online shoppers

Wethrift helps over 3 million shoppers save money online every month by helping shoppers find coupon codes and discounts at over 100,000 online stores.

We analyzed 5.2 million visitors to Wethrift.com from the US, and combined our website analytics for each city with demographic data from Nielsen's DMA Rankings 2020. This let us compare how often shoppers in each city search for online coupons when they shop online.

We've scored and ranked 210 cities with what we call the "Thrift Index" to indicate how often people from each city search for coupons when they shop online compared to the national average.

A city with a Thrift index of 1 means that the average shopper in that city searches for online coupons equally as often as the national average.

A city with a Thrift index of 1.5 means that the average shopper in that city searches for online coupons 50% more often as the national average.
